|
The Honor Committee is setting a new standard for training and succession management. In order to efficiently support the Honor System, the 2007 Honor Committee has been working closely with the 2008 Honor Committee, providing members with practical experience.
This year, proactive steps were taken to better prepare the new 2008 Honor Committee, as they begin to assume their responsibilities. During Honor Training, the new Honor Representatives observed actual deliberations, which helped them understand the deliberation process. Additionally, the Honor Committee has operated "split courts" consisting of both 2007 and 2008 Honor Representatives. Both of these activities have been aimed at increasing the new Honor Committee's experience before they officially take over the Court. Also, the new representatives have been shadowing the outgoing committee in all aspects of Honor. The new representatives have been investigating, prosecuting, defending, and serving as members of the Court. Additionally, the new officers have been working closely with the former officers, becoming knowledgeable on their additional roles and responsibilities. The new officers have been given Continuity Notebooks specific to their positions. These informative notebooks contain advice from previous officers, detailed descriptions of duties, and other important materials. Incoming officers will be able to use the notebooks to aid them as they learn the responsibilities of their positions. Next year, 2008 officers can provide their own input and pass down the notebooks to future Honor Committee members. The 2007 Honor Committee has made a conscious effort to give the new committee members adequate experience before they leave their positions. Therefore, the new representatives will know from the beginning what to do and will be equipped with the experience and confidence to do it well. |
