With support from the Krause Initiative, Patrick Vickery, a graduate student in the School Psychology program, attended "Fall for Leadership," a conference held at Clemson University on October 28, 2006.

Clemson University held their annual conference, Fall for Leadership, on October 28, 2006.  The one-day event included professional and student presentations and workshops designed to increase awareness about leadership and its role in the life of a student.  Topics included in the workshops were communication, conflict management, goal setting, and strategic planning.

CGPS student, Patrick Vickery writes on his experience at Fall for Leadership:

Clemson University hosted the 13th Annual Fall for Leadership Conference on October 28, 2006.  Three workshops were held, with each attendee given several topics from which to choose.  Of many choices, topics included communication, strategic planning, and deciphering one's own leadership style.  Workshops were led by a range of individuals that included a Clemson professor, employees of Target, and graduate students from Columbia College.

As a graduate and former member of the Corps of Cadets, I can testify to the fact that if members of the Corps attended, they would have been able to contribute a great deal to the conference, in that the unquestionable leadership opportunities afforded to our young men and women is second to none among their cohorts from other undergraduate institutions.  With that being said, I will also add that the conference would have benefited any potential attendees.  I would especially like to emphasize the quality of the workshop devoted to strategic planning.   This session provided a brief, but wll formulated lesson regarding the process of strategic planning.  The information is applicable and beneficial in many areas in one's personal life, but when considering its relevance to the requirements of junior and senior rank holders, it possesses an even more valid component.

I recommend that in the future, members of the Corps strongly consider accepting invitations to attend future Fall for Leadership conferences, and members of the College of Graduate and Professional Studies should consider leading workshops pertaining to relevant topics.
