Prior to departing for the summer, rising cadet leaders participated in the Spring Leadership Seminar 2007.
Rising Corps leaders were invited to attend the Spring 2007 Leadership Seminar on May 1, 2007. The annual spring seminar, entitled "Preparing to Take the Guidon," prepares cadets to lead their fellow classmates by embracing the challenges of leadership. Faced with the responsibility of leading the Corps, cadets began discussing how to focus their efforts in the new year. Cadets met in the Riverview Room to have lunch with faculty members before departing for the summer. LTC Weart coordinated the event to focus on self-preparation for incoming Commanders, Senior NCOs, and selected staff officers. This focus recognizes the innate skills and desires of these cadets and the opportunity to help them take charge of their own leadership development as they prepare for their future roles. LTC Weart welcomed the rising Corps leaders, followed by opening comments from the Commandant, Col. Stone. Cadets were provided with key information for the upcoming year along with preparation tips for their leadership development. Maj Fudge, director of the Writing and Learning Center, had cadets complete a Myers-Briggs Assessment. By learning individual personality types, leaders can identify their values and priorities. After lunch, cadets participated in a team building exercise focused on project management styles. From The Citadel School of Business, Karen Shuler led a group discussion on different management styles found within The Citadel. In conclusion, LTC Weart facilitated a group discussion on next year's focus areas, emphasizing the goal development process.
