Graduate Student Attends "Fall For Leadership" PDF Print E-mail

For the second year, the Krause Initiative sponsored a Citadel graduate student, giving her the opportunity to attend a leadership conference at Clemson University.

Clemson University's 14th annual Fall for Leadership conference was held Saturday, October 27, 2007.  The one-day event included professional and student presentations and workshops designed to increase awareness about leadership and its role in the life of a student.  Topics included in the workshops were communication, conflict management, goal setting, and strategic planning.

Katey Rabon, a graduate student in the School Counseling program, shares her experience:

Going into the Fall for Leadership conference at Clemson University, I had no idea what to expect, as I had never been to a conference of any sort before.  I expected to learn about what leadership means and ways to improve myself as a leader, but I learned so much more.

The first workshop I attended taught me how to better market and communicate my skills to future employers.  By using examples from experiences in college, employers will be able to see how former student leaders can benefit from their companies.   The second workshop I attended was all about ethics.  As a student leader, it is important to always consider how your actions might affect other students and your organization.  As an employee of a company, being ethical in every decision is equally as important.  The third workshop I attended was about differing perspectives.  Being able to recognize individual perspectives about a given situation is essential in becoming an effective leader.  Including everyone's thoughts and perspectives when making decisions will produce a better outcome for all.

The Fall for Leadership conference was such a great opportunity.  I was able to speak with other students about their leadership experiences and begin to develop into a better leader. I encourage any student who is looking for an opportunity to better themselves in order to better their organization to attend the Fall for Leadership Conference.
